Jelle Proost is a Ghent-based composer, conductor and percussionist.

Jelle grew up at the coast of Belgium. Nature always played a role in his life. His childhood was quite calm until his brother picked up the guitar. Looking for a second guitar for my brother, he came home with a drum kit and this is where his musical path took off. He learned the music theory and harmony in his teens and wrote some of his first music pieces at that time.

Growing up with the all-time classics of Super Mario Bros and The Legend of Zelda series, Jelle was more and more drawn into the emotive potential of music.

In just a few years, Jelle prepared for the entrance exam at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent, where he got admitted. At the conservatory he studied classical percussion, composition and orchestral conducting. Knowing which impact his music teachers had on his life, Jelle decided to be a part of the music education as well.

Jelle is currently finishing his Master Symphonic Conducting at the Conservatory of Tilburg and further refining his composition style and musical identity. His style draws influences from classical composers such as Shostakovich, Mahler, Bruckner and Korsakov, from film composers such as Williams, Newman, Gregson-Williams and game composers such as Koji Kondo and Austin Wintory. His compositional approach is to mix cinematic elements with classical orchestration techniques, to make strong, emotive music with a distinct character.

Jelle has great interest in all different music cultures, especially in Indian and Japanese music traditions.

He has a modest collection of whisky.
